NFL+ does not offer out-of-market games to fans outside of the national prime-time contests. Verizon decided to end its streaming partnership last year as part of its strategy to exit the video content business by spinning off Yahoo and AOL.
The company gave up its exclusive rights in 2017 and presented NFL content across its digital properties including Yahoo.
Verizon was the first company to offer NFL games on mobile devices, starting in 2010. “It’s the right time now for us to package this all together in a product that is more significant at a price that we think is attractive,” said David Jurenka, senior vice president of NFL Media and general manager of the NFL’s Los Angeles office. Mobile viewership was also up 26%.While some consumers might be irritated at having to pay to stream live games after getting them for free for more than a decade, league executives believe the additional content offered on NFL+ will make it enticing for hardcore fans. “OverTier has a proven track record of innovation in Europe, and we look forward to unlocking significant potential across other markets,” said Chris Halpin, NFL Chief Strategy & Growth Officer, in a press release.Īccording to the NFL, Game Pass regular season viewership in Europe was up 46% year-on-year from 2017 to 2018. Deltatre also built the content management system that Major League Baseball recently adopted for its digital editorial platforms. Bruin Sports also owns Deltatre, which provides the streaming infrastructure that powers NFL Game Pass.
OverTier is owned by Bruin Sports Capital, an investment firm founded by former NASCAR and IMG executive George Pyne. OverTier originally partnered with the NFL in 2017 to operate Game Pass in 61 countries and territories across Europe. The new markets that will now have access to the subscription platform include Australia, Brazil, Hong Kong, India, Israel, Japan, Mexico and South Korea.įans can stream all NFL games, NFL Red Zone, the NFL Network and additional programming from NFL Films via the platform. The NFL Game Pass streaming service will now be available in 181 different countries and territories worldwide, thanks to an expanded partnership between the league and OverTier.
